The British heavyweight stood by his much-discussed remarks about being prepared to “kill” Jake Paul during a media gathering in Miami on midweek.

These statements were first made on Tuesday when Joshua was asked if he would show restraint against Paul, replying that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

Saturday's fight against the internet personality turned fighter has sparked criticism over safety concerns and the physical disparity between the two fighters.

Fury Calls Joshua a “Disgrace”

Former world heavyweight champion The Gypsy King called Anthony Joshua a “disgrace” for his inflammatory comments.

But the 36-year-old fighter, explained his stance: “This is what I do, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I understand many people don't understand it but this is what my job is. I take pleasure in what I do. Whatever happens, happens - as long as my hand is raised, that's what's crucial, with all due respect.”

He continued, “That's just the mentality we have to have as boxers. I'm unsure if other boxers think that way. Perhaps they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a perilous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You hope your opponent leaves the ring in good health, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was not personal.”

Paul's Fiery Response

Jake Paul, a considerable underdog in the fight as a natural lighter fighter, was no less incendiary in his response.

“This is a contemporary gladiator sport,” Paul stated. “I'm ready. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all said and done. We should kill each other.”

Joshua will face Paul, in his twenties, at Miami's Kaseya Center in a fight many see as a major mismatch, with some suggesting it should have been approved as an exhibition bout.

The professional contest will be contested over 8 3-minute rounds using standard ten-ounce gloves, with a specified maximum weight for Joshua.

Joshua Says He Was “Called In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the vulgar terminology used, the fighter suggested he has been “brought in to rescue” boxing.

“They want me to stop the Jake Paul show and I comprehend it and that's why I have to carry boxing on my back in this fight,” he added.

The event also had lighter exchanges, with Joshua smiling as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The face-off passed without incident, with the underdog adopting a odd pose before Joshua remained composed and lightly touched Paul's necklace.

Paul & Joshua Dismiss Scripted Claims

The surreal nature of this fight has led to questions about its legitimacy, including suggestions that he may be restricted from scoring a knockout.

“There's nothing in the contract, AJ can confirm it. We're going to battle,” Jake Paul insisted.

Joshua, sporting a valuable chain, jokingly added, “The only thing in the contract that got my interest was the money.”

Paul has stated on social media that the fight earnings will be exceptionally high.

He has not faced anyone of the former champion's pedigree but insisted that his opponent would not underestimate him.

“It's a wise move on his part,” he commented. “This could possibly be, and will be, the greatest defeat of his life.”

It would certainly leave an indelible stain on Joshua's legacy, but the athlete said it would not spell the end.

“I'd return again, shake it off,” he said. “I will be headlining again in a year or two. It is what it is. I'm a player in the sport.”
